Featuring the deciding game of the 2017 NBA Finals (Golden State-Cleveland), ABC scored a huge win on Monday, topping its combined competition by 4.7 million viewers (17.3 million vs. 12.6 million for CBS, NBC, Fox and CW) and once again more doubling the other nets combined with Adults 18-49 (+121% – 6.2/24 vs. 2.8/11). The Net dominated all 5 evenings this year with NBA Finals coverage.

  • In Adults 18-49, ABC scored its highest-rated Monday in over 11 years– since 5/15/06.

Airing around the NBA Finals in various time periods across the country, “Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night” continued to boost the exposure for the ABC late-night talker in primetime with its biggest audience ever for a “Game Night 5” (4.7 million). Through all 5 of its 2017 broadcasts (4.1 million), “Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night” held even with last year’s comparable average as the annual special’s most watched ever 5-night average.

ABC’s 2017 NBA Finals Game 5 shot to the top of the night to rank as Monday’s dominant No. 1 TV program with an average audience of 24.5 million and a 9.0/33 in Adults 18-49. It was the 5th telecast in a row for the 2017 NBA Finals to finish as the top show on the night. The Golden State Warriors won the game 129-120 to take its second NBA championship in three years. Across all key measures, it was the biggest game of the 2017 NBA Finals.

  • The NBA Finals on ABC Game 5 shot up over last year by 20% in Total Viewers (24.5 million vs. 20.5 million) and by 18% in Adults 18-49 (9.0/33 vs. 7.6/25).  In fact it was ABC’s biggest-ever non-Game 7 for the NBA Finals and also qualified as the most watched Game 5 for an NBA Finals in 19 years – since 6/12/98.
  • The 2017 Golden State-Cleveland matchup produced the most watched ever 5-game NBA Finals on ABC (20.4 million viewers). In the 15 years since ABC began carrying the NBA Finals in 2003, there have been a total of five 5-game series.
