‘Nightline’ Beats CBS’ ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’ in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the Week of Sept. 3

ABC News’ “Nightline” averaged 1.155 million Total Viewers, 423,000 Adults 25-54, 328,000 Adults 18-49, during the week of Sept. 3, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” beat CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (360,000 and 279,000, respectively) in Adults 25-54 (+63,000) and Adults 18-49 (+49,000).

“Nightline” posted week-to-week increases (1.067 million, 400,000 and 319,000, respectively, for w/o 8/27/18) across the board: Total Viewers (+8%), Adults 25-54 (+6%) and Adults 18-49 (+3%), hitting 8-week highs in both key adult demos – since w/o 7/9/18.

Season to date, “Nightline” is beating CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+30,000 – 488,000 vs. 458,000) and Adults 18-49 (+29,000 – 369,000 vs. 340,000). 

Stories on “Nightline” last week included accounts from Santa Rosa police officers and other first responders from the night of the October 2017 Tubbs fire; the first joint television interview with the mother and stepfather of 7-year-old Kayden Mancuso one month after she was murdered; a report on Nike’s new advertisement featuring Colin Kaepernick that has sparked both protests and support from some sports fans; and the settlement details of Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle company Goop, which denies wrongdoing over alleged unsubstantiated product claims.

NOTE: Due to the Labor Day holiday (9/4/17), ABC’s, CBS’ and NBC’s Monday telecasts were coded as specials and excluded from the weekly averages. ABC’s, CBS’ and NBC’s averages are based on four days (Tuesday-Friday).

ABC News’ “Nightline” is anchored by Dan Harris, Juju Chang and Byron Pitts. Steven Baker is executive producer. The program airs weeknights, from 12:35-1:05 a.m. EDT, on The ABC Television Network. Together with “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” “Nightline” is part of ABC’s winning late-night strategy of airing news and entertainment programming.
